Iran Warns of Prolonged Conflict as U.S. Considers Further Strikes

by admin477351

Iran has issued a warning that any renewed conflict with the United States could be more prolonged than previous confrontations, following comments from U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that Washington still has targets to strike within the country. The Iranian military spokesperson, Mohammad Akraminia, emphasized that the duration and conditions of such a conflict would not be dictated by the U.S.

The warning comes after President Trump hinted at the possibility of targeting one or two remaining sites in Iran, specifically mentioning Pickaxe Mountain, a suspected underground nuclear facility. Trump’s remarks have contributed to increased tensions amid ongoing Middle Eastern diplomatic efforts.

In discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump reportedly focused on the ongoing negotiations and the potential resumption of military operations. Israel has expressed interest in renewed strikes post the November 3 U.S. midterm elections, while Washington deliberates on the timing and potential continuation of diplomatic efforts.

Responding to these developments, Iranian military officials have issued stern warnings. Hossein Mohebbi of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps indicated that any conflict with the U.S. would lack geographical limitations, suggesting Iran’s capability to extend its response regionally. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged the U.S. to pursue diplomacy, affirming Tehran’s readiness for both military defense and negotiations.

Amidst these tensions, Iran’s security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, disclosed receiving a letter from U.S. Vice President JD Vance aimed at reviving diplomatic discussions. While acknowledging a positive shift in Washington’s stance, Rezaei noted that Tehran has not yet responded. Iran has laid out conditions for renewed talks, including the release of frozen assets, lifting of the U.S. naval blockade, removal of sanctions, and cessation of regional hostilities.

The situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, with Iran imposing restrictions on shipping through this strategic waterway crucial for global oil and gas supplies, while the U.S. maintains its naval blockade of Iranian ports. The United Arab Emirates has expressed hope for diplomatic progress but cautioned against potential escalation, with UAE diplomatic adviser Anwar Gargash noting that further conflict would not benefit regional interests.

As military threats persist alongside diplomatic endeavors, uncertainty looms over whether Washington and Tehran can reach an agreement or if the region is on the brink of further military confrontation.
