In Hanoi, Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng engaged with Jennifer Wicks, the newly appointed US Ambassador, to reinforce Vietnam’s dedication to enhancing its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. The meeting underscored the importance of the US as a key partner for Vietnam, with the Prime Minister advocating for increased collaboration across various sectors.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the need for stronger ties in areas such as trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security. He highlighted the importance of finalizing a fair and balanced bilateral trade agreement to provide greater stability and certainty for businesses operating between the two nations.
The dialogue also extended to cooperation in defense and cybersecurity, as well as law enforcement and humanitarian assistance. A significant portion of the discussions centered around addressing the Vietnam War’s legacy, including initiatives for dioxin cleanup, the removal of unexploded ordnance, and efforts to identify missing soldiers.
Ambassador Wicks expressed the United States’ commitment to bolstering economic ties and supporting Vietnam’s development ambitions. She highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration in education, innovation, maritime security, and addressing regional issues. Additionally, Wicks pledged continued support for joint humanitarian programs focused on war legacy issues and emphasized the need for closer people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
